Ethics approval: Animal Care Committees of the Montreal Neurological Institute and McGill University; animal use protocols 5680 and 5724.

Animal care and housing: Standard animal care. Animals were pair-housed.

Any applicable training:

Scanning preparations

Anesthesia procedures: Animals were intubated and anesthetized with 0.6%-1.2% isoflurane.

Time between anesthesia and scanning: Animals were scanned 30 minutes after intubation. Anesthesia was maintained throughout the MRI session.

Head fixation: No head fixation.

Position in scanner and procedure used: Supine position.

Contrast agent: None

During scanning

Physiological monitoring: Heart beat and oxygen saturation were monitored by means of pulse oximetry.

Additional procedures: The animals were ventilated, and core temperature was monitored and maintained at 38 degrees by means of a heating pad.
